The latest rugged tablet PCs, R8-EX and U11I-EX, meet stringent safety requirements for operation in the oil, gas, and pharmaceutical industries.
Twinhead International Corp., the owner of the Durabook brand, has released two rugged tablet models specifically designed for environments with high risks of explosion due to gases, vapors, and dust. Both tablets are certified with the European Union’s ATEX Zone 2/22 compliance, ensuring safety in areas where ignition risks come from lightning, stray currents, static discharges, open flames, or mechanical sparks.
ATEX certification is crucial for equipment used in oil refineries and pharmaceutical manufacturing. The R8-EX and U11I-EX tablets comply with ATEX Zone 2 for gas, vapor, or mist hazards and Zone 22 for dust or fibers in the atmosphere.
Key Features
The Durabook R8-EX and U11I-EX tablets are designed to enhance worker productivity and safety in industrial settings with the following features:
- Fanless Design: Both models feature Durabook’s Coolfinity™ technology, eliminating the need for power-hungry fans and minimizing dust and debris ingress, enhancing durability.
- Powerful Performance: Equipped with 12th generation Intel CPUs, these tablets handle demanding industrial applications smoothly.
- Readable Displays: Patented DynaVue technology ensures clear screen visibility even in direct sunlight. Displays support multiple operation modes, including gloves, stylus, rain, and standard modes. A digital stylus-digitizer is optionally available.
- Robust Connectivity: Standard features include Thunderbolt 4, Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX211, and Bluetooth V5.3. Optional LTE modules are available for both models, with 5G compatibility on the U11I-EX. GPS modules are also optional.
- Military-Grade Durability: Certified to MIL-STD-810H for drop resistance (up to 1.8 meters) and IP66 for maximum dust, dirt, and water protection. Operational temperature range is -20°C to 60°C.
- Extended Battery Life: Both models support hot-swappable batteries. The U11I-EX offers up to 10 hours on a standard battery and 20 hours with a high-capacity battery. The R8-EX runs for 8.5 hours on a standard battery and up to 17 hours with an optional high-capacity battery.
